The inspiration for my work has always come from the natural environment. I am particularly interested in the intimate details found in fragments of archaeology, geology, and natural history. I normally base all my ideas around observational studies, in graphite, pen and ink or watercolour, from actual objects, landscapes and related subjects.
Exploring and developing ideas can take several months, or even years, but usually begin with mono printing or collage. I enjoy the immediacy and spontaneity of these two processes, as well as their ability to break away from reality in interesting and exciting ways.
From here I can carry the work into other print areas, particularly collagraph, woodcut or lino, often combining more than one craft in the final images. In this way I find that I often produce a whole series of related pieces of work.
Until recently I have been teaching A level Art and A level Graphic Design at Richard Huish College, Taunton. I also run weekly Art Classes as well as workshops in Print making, Paper making and Book.
I am currently a member of Artists 303 and the Clifton Art Club.
